Q: What is the process for an artists to receive a commission? Can I apply?
There is no application process. Jazz Coalition members nominate an artist they feel deserves a commission. Then a jury committee selects the commission recipients from the pool of nominees.
Q: How much are commissions?
Jazz Coalition Commission Fund rewards $1000 commissions to recipients.
Q: When are commissions paid to recipients?
Commissions are paid to recipients immediately upon completion of the selection process by the jury committee, and upon processing of commission agreement between Jazz Coalition and recipient.
Jazz Coalition will award commissions on a rolling basis, as stages of funding pool targets are met.
Q: How long does a commission recipient have to complete the commission work?
Commissions should be completed within three (3) months of recipient of the commission.
Q: What are the requirements of the commissioned piece?
All new commissions should be original works. A new/unique arrangement of an existing piece will be accepted.
Jazz Coalition encourages recipients to consider incorporating themes in their compositions that reflect upon the current crisis affecting us.
Jazz Coalition welcomes a commission recipient to tribute an jazz artist we recently lost to COVID-19 in their work.

Q: When I premiere the commission at a Jazz Coalition partner venue how am I compensated for that performance?
When we are able to assemble together, the presenter/venue who is presenting your premiere will compensate you for this performance under terms to be mutually agreed upon by you and presenter/venue.
